🌗 Core Engineering Resolutions & Algorithmic Milestones

A. The PyYAML CustomLoader Parser

During frontmatter validation sweeps, PyYAML's default implicit resolver automatically coerced unquoted ISO 8601 timestamps into native Python datetime objects. This mutated original string representations (e.g. converting "2026-08-05T12:00:00Z" to datetime.datetime(...)), causing OKF validation scripts to fail formatting constraints.

  • Jules' Resolution: Introduced a custom PyYAML loader (CustomLoader) derived from SafeLoader. To preserve boolean resolvers while preventing automatic timestamp parsing, the loader creates independent copies of every resolver list from SafeLoader's implicit resolver map and selectively removes tag:yaml.org,2002:timestamp across all buckets:

This guarantees raw timestamps remain string types while preserving boolean parsing across all compliance scripts (apply_okf_frontmatter.py, refactor_okf.py).

B. Secure Sibling Atomic File Replacement

Standard inline writes (open(file, 'w')) carry high risk of leaving empty or corrupt files if execution is interrupted mid-write.

  • Jules' Resolution: Engineered atomic state replacement utilizing standard library file-swapping. Modifications are written to a unique, sibling temporary file, and only upon a clean exit does os.replace() atomise the write.

Cloning the repository on native Windows workstations often converts symlinks to plain-text pointers and forces CRLF line endings, causing POSIX-based tests to throw false-positive errors.

  • Jules' Resolution: Upgraded the test discovery suites (tests/test_okf_frontmatter_bom_reorder.py, tests/test_docs_symlinks.py) to handle Windows native checkouts.
